What Should Men Wear on First Date

First date attire will depend on the location of the first date. A black suit at an outdoor concert will not win you any points! In general, if you will be going to dinner in a nicer restaurant, meeting important people in her life, or appearing at a business function, a suit or dressy casual are always good choices. A navy blazer, khaki pants, and a blue shirt is a classic preppy look. Do a little investigation, and make your clothing choices based on facts.

If the occasion is definitely casual, you will still want to err on the side of moderation for a first date. Khaki pants or your best jeans, a collared shirt, and an optional sport coat are all good choices. (After all, she might get cold and you could offer her your coat!

the fitted Gingham shirt

Gingham can be dressed up for the office with a contrasting knitted tie in plain black or a contrast stripe. Wear at the weekend with indigo jeans, cropped trousers or chino shorts. Black and white is strong but brights work equally well (mine’s royal blue and white). I’ve seen yellow, pink, purple and red do wonders. The main thing for me is the fit (hence the refit - RLR is not yet available in the UK and it was a mis-judged NYC purchase).

Slim fitting, not overly long in the sleeves and definitely not a billowing, untucked tent of a thing is the ideal to focus on.

Gap shrinks board and compensation

Gap's Board of Directors announced it has decided to reduce the size of the Board from 13 to 10 members, and to cut the compensation for remaining Board members for 2009 by reducing both the annual cash retainer and stock compensation by 15 percent. The company also disclosed that Glenn Murphy, Chairman and CEO of Gap Inc., volunteered to cut his annual salary by 15 percent, and merit-based salary increases were eliminated for most headquarters employees for 2009.

As part of this announcement, two members of the Board – Howard Behar and Penelope Hughes – agreed not to stand for re-election for a new term in May 2009 at the time of the company’s Annual Meeting of Shareholders. In addition, company co-founder Doris Fisher has decided not to stand for re-election at that time and will assume the role of honorary lifetime director.
